Hardwood Floor Types

Once you have decided on installing a hardwood floor in your house, the next step is to decide on the type of flooring that suits your needs. Solid hardwood floors are solid planks of wood, usually cut 3 / 4 cm thick.

Prefinished vs Unfinished

Unfinished flooring must be job-site sanded and finished after installation. Prefinished flooring is sanded and finished in the factory. Prefinished flooring is a particularly attractive option for remoddelling, because the installation process is faster, simpler and cleaner.

On the other hand, unfinished floors offer more options for customizing color, shine and grout.

Solid Strip and Plank

Solid strip and plank flooring is almost always locked, almost never glued.
As the name suggests, solid floor is made of several pieces of wood, rather than constructed from wood veneer.
Made mostly from oak, strip flooring is usually 3 / 4 cm thick, 2 1 / 2 or 3 1 / 4 inch wide, although other joint width as 1 1 / 2 and 2 inches are available in limited quantities.Some solid wood flooring is 1 / 2 inch or 5 / 8 inch thick.
